Organized in 1967, the Rogue Valley Symphony is a paid regional orchestra. Led by conductor Arthur Shaw, the ensemble presents five symphonic concerts per season, October through April, repeating each program in Ashland, Medford, and Grants Pass.

In December, a chamber orchestra drawn from members of the full orchestra presents Holiday Candlelight Concerts in all three communities.

Introducing young people to classical music is one of the Symphony's major goals. Every fall the orchestra plays for 3,600 or more Ashland and Medford elementary students during a marathon day of back-to-back concerts at South Medford Hight School. Free vouchers are widely available for music students throughout the season, and each season a string ensemble drawn from the orchestra gives live classroom demonstrations in 58 schools throughout Southern Oregon.
