Shula Morgan

Shula Morgan has been teaching beginning piano and guitar, voice and beginning songwriting in the Rogue Valley since 1993. She gives private and group lessons in a supportive and cheerful atmosphere and genuinely loves music and her work with it.

Shula was raised by a musical family here in the valley and began singing and playing piano on stage at the age of five. She has an Associate Arts Degree in Music from the American River College in Sacramento, California and while there studied music theory, piano, guitar, concert choir, jazz choir, music business and opera. Scales are an integral part of her teaching regimen, as well as learning to read music. In teaching voice, she uses Royal Stanton's Steps to Singing, the Vaccai and Twenty Four Italian Arias. She views the entire body as the singing musical instrument and stresses the importance of interpretation and delivery of the song. Also stressed are the fundamentals of singing including breath, posture, tonal placement, use of dipthongs and correct vowel formation. Once the basics are established through classical training, any kind of stylizing can be acheived.

In the field of writing songs, Shula Morgan has composed and recorded over seventy-five songs in a variety of areas such as rock, pop, blues, country, folk, classical, reggae and gospel. She has co-written dozens more and also makes original arrangements of other music. Ms. Morgan is a founding member of the Southern Oregon Songwriters Association and served on the Board of Directors for three years.
