SyZyGy

SyZyGy is a local contemporary chamber music series that was first organized in 2002 by Rogue Valley composer Ken Deveney. The word SyZyGy is pronounced "sizz-a-jee" and usually refers to the straight-line configuration of three celestial bodies (as the sun and earth and moon) in a gravitational system. In Greek verse an iambic syzygy is the coupling together of different feet.

The mission of the SyZyGy concert series is to provide Rogue Valley residents with opportunities to listen to or participate in the production of new and contemporary chamber music. Programs focus on music that is produced by composers from the Northwest and is performed by musicians of the Northwest. Director David MacKenzie has considerable experience in conducting and a great knowledge of contemporary music. In addition to being the director of this concert series, he is also the Artistic Director of Rogue Opera and is a frequent guest conductor and active clinician with orchestras across the United States. Dr. MacKenzie's background includes graduate studies at the Yale University School of Music where he received a Master of Music, Master of Musical Arts, and a Doctor of Musical Arts.
