![]() The Terra Nova Consort is a world class touring and recording ensemble that was founded in 1988 by Sue Carney and Pat O'Scannell with the idea of exploring ethnic influences on the performance of early music. The size of this ensemble varies with the programming. Since its founding and subsequent residency at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Terra Nova Consort has been actively involved in educational programs given by Southern Oregon University, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Oregon Arts Commission, Elderhostel, and the Seattle Early Music Guild. In addition, members have appeared in educational settings throughout the west, bringing early music to students of all ages and backgrounds. After the release of its 1999 debut CD, "Renaissance en Provence", Terra Nova Consort became active on the national and international touring circuit. In the summer of 2000, the ensemble made its European debut at the Tage Alter Musik Festival in Regensburg, Germany. Dubbed there "the absolute discovery" by festival founder Stephan Schmidt, the Consort brought its fresh and inventive sound to a wildly appreciative international audience. The members have been asked to return to Regensburg in June of 2003 to perform works from their latest CD "Baylado"! This recording features music of the Spanish Renaissance, with sizzling vocals and wild percussion. The Terra Nova Consort has completed its second national tour to sell-out crowds and rave reviews. The ensemble records on the Dorian label. The CD's "Renaissance en Provence" and "Baylado!" have distribution in 54 countries and can be heard on NPR throughout the U.S. and beyond. ![]() |
